10 Mindset Tips to Land a Job Abroad

In 2018, I was living in Chile, and, to be honest, I couldn’t complain. Life was really good. I had a leadership position in a technology company, and I truly loved my job. However, it took me a while to realize that I was in a very comfortable situation, and I wasn’t growing anymore. One day, my husband got home and mentioned he had the opportunity to relocate to the US. Living in America is a dream for many people, but living in Silicon Valley for technical professionals is like going to Mecca. We weren’t getting any younger, and we thought: it’s now or never.

We made this decision, and although it wasn’t easy leaving the company I worked for the last 8 years, I knew everything would be ok. At the end of the day, I am a qualified professional, and I assumed it wouldn’t be complicated to find a new job. Like John Snow (GoT reference), I knew nothing. Working for the same company for many years and not applying for any job, of course, I was rusty. However, practice makes perfect. I’d love to share what I learned in the process to find a job in a new country:

  1. Define your target job title: It seems quite obvious, doesn’t it? You can’t find a job if you don’t know what you want. But it’s not that simple! How could I choose? There were so many titles, and my diverse experience would allow me to apply for so many different positions, like Operations, Customer…
